Erotic Writing

Hello there listeners / readers / writers

Fi's been sweet enough to give me a little space on the forum to wax lyrical on my take on erotic writing. in the next few weeks you will start hearing some of my work and I'd love to discuss with you what you thought worked and what didn't.

I'm by no means an authority or highly professional, but I do have a few things I'd love to share on what I think makes a good story. I also want to hear what you think works, what you would like to hear more of and what kinds of things float your audio-erotic boat.

Let's start with the basics of what it is Sonic Erotica is basically looking for in a story and head from there.

(1) FEMALE PERSPECTIVES
SE is keen on stories told from the perspective of a woman, or that are about women. Bi/Lesbian stories are very encouraged.
Girls - I've read a few submissions sent in and I want to take this opportunity to say: This is your chance to TELL IT LIKE IT IS so how about dispensing with "girl meets guy, goes out to skanky carpark and in 5 seconds is penetrated and has massive orgasm, end of story." You're a rare breed if you can climax like that, and I personally need a bit more to get me going. Have a think about what its really like for you. Maybe if we all band together and write stories that are not only sexy but are also plausible, we'll go a long way to educating future lovers.
Guys - There is no reason why you can't tell a good erotic story from a woman's perspective. Take some time out to consider seduction and sex from a woman's point of view. Ask around if you can, learn and then let loose. I'm sure all your sensitive research will come in handy at some point. Once again, lets think about what Really happens.

A word on REALISM - I think good erotic writing is a combination of Realism and Fantasy. Realistic enough that people can relate, with enough fantasy to tickle all the right places.

But that's enough for my first post. I want to know what you think.

Re: Erotic Writing

Hello again, as Fi has already mentioned in the blog area of SE, Lazy Geisha ( www.lazygeisha.com ) is a great site. Nina writes brilliant erotic stories and I find her work very inspiring. Blogs are a great place to see what people are thinking and writing about and if you find one you like be sure to follow the links (often called a Blogroll) to see who they like to read. Blogging is also a good way to practice your erotic writing and get feedback. There are lots of sites out there dedicated to Erotic Fiction, however be patient as the good stuff can sometimes be hard to find. I also find it useful to have access to the internet as I am writing so I can double check the validity of place names or particular facts.

Re: Erotic Writing

I write a little erotica myself, mostly to keep myself 'amused' but tend to write from the male protagonist's perspective whilst objectifying myself.  I tend to leave out any physical description of the male, making it easy for any man to slot themselves in..so to speak....but the physical attributes of the woman are always my own. I wrote a story most recently for a friend of mine who has a hoisery fetish, and did quite a lot of internet trawling on the subject as it is not a fetish I have myself though I do own quite a bit of lovely hoisery. It was received very well. I also wrote a piece in creative collaboration with a cyber buddy of mine which worked out really nicely and the end result was quite seamless. This was great for me as I am good at the initial inspiration and really bad at follow though. As a result I have quite a few pieces I have begun without finishing.

Re: Erotic Writing

Hi Little Doll, its good to hear from another erotica writer. Its interesting that you write from the male protaganist's point of view, I would love to read a little of your writing if you are ok with sharing. The internet is great for finding information on fetishes and for erotic writing in general and I really enjoy reading other people's blogs. Hang on to those pieces that you haven't finished, you never know, the urge might come over you one day, or you might find someone keen to collaborate with you... (Maybe me?)

Re: Erotic Writing

I was hoping to get you all to talk a little more and I want to ask those of you who write what you use for inspiration and what gets you in the mood to write?

Re: Erotic Writing

Hello again,

Its been a bit quiet in here. While you were all napping I've been moving house from Blogger to Wordpress. Blogger has been ace and I highly recommend it to anyone wanting to blog their thoughts, but I found Wordpress with its fancy video upload and multiple page options quite difficult to resist. I've uploaded some of the stuff from my blogger page, plus some new writing and the first six parts to a novel. I hope you are all busily writing away in between the holiday madness.

Re: Erotic Writing

Hello!  I'm new to the site (it's WONDERFUL!) and just submitted a story for consideration.  What a neat venue this is; I'm enjoying it immensely!

I think that much of my own philosophy on erotic writing is informed by the reading I do, erotic and otherwise.  I love to fall into a story that is written smoothly, has realistic, three-dimensional characters, and gives me a clear sense of what it's like to be there, in the moment, with all the quirks and flaws and joys that make us human.  There are so many things in our lives that make sexuality so important to us, and so challenging at times; and I like to try to create enough context to really magnify the hot bits, if that makes any sense...

Re: Erotic Writing

Hello writers and friends

I've been trawling through the submission options for erotic stories out there on the internet. A lot of these sites can take months before they respond and often have quite an enormous list of criteria. Have a read through and keep in mind that just because it isn't suitable for one site doesn't mean that it isn't suitable for any other sites. You just need to find the right home for your stories. As I've said a personal blog is great and to really get the most out of it start reading and commenting on other people's blogs and making links to their sites on yours.

If you're a reader and you have particularly liked a story someone has written then let them know in the comments section. Everybody loves a little praise for their hard work. However try to avoid being negative or overly critical, it's everyone's right to express themselves in their own manner, on their own blog, so if you don't like the style, subject matter or characters then stop reading it. Some high profile bloggers recently have experienced a large degree of negative feedback from (often religious) minorities who could simply stop reading the blogs they find so offensive.

if your blog is explicit I suggest putting a "You need to be 18 years old to view this material" banner on your page.

If anyone has any experiences about submitting to sites / publishers or feedback about blogging, I'd love for you to share them.

Arielle, thank you so much for the visit and also for the link!  I've linked back to you as well -- your blog contains some very lovely stuff.  I just got through reading the one about the chef and the peaches... whooo.  :)

Re: Erotic Writing

I'll chime in on post #9:

Regarding submitting to publishers (whether electronic or print) -- your advice is spot on (for erotica or for any other sort of writing).  It can take a while to find the right home for a piece.  When rejections do come, it doesn't necessarily mean that the work isn't great -- it could be a matter of timing, of the right "fit," or of many other factors.  I hate to see new writers get discouraged!

Professionalism is important, too... in my experience, online and off, editors respond really well to good presentation and to courtesy.

I'm new to blogging, and it's really interesting stuff. I like that the format is so flexible, and you can make a blog into anything you want it to be.  It's a lot of fun to network with other writers and communities.  I find that it affects my discipline, too, in ways that remind me of the writing workshop courses I've taken at university:  because it's all "visible" and there's an implied audience, it reminds me to keep up a commitment to posting fairly consistently and trying to keep up the quality.  (When I write offline, I have a bad habit of finishing less stuff than I start, so I've got a lot of bits and pieces hanging around, waiting for more attention...)

Re: Erotic Writing

Playful Bent is certainly a good way to while away the work day. If you are keen on bondage, BDSM, trans/gay/bi/lesbian there's plenty of that on there, but it does cater to a wide variety of tastes.

I had a look at Violet Blue today, http://www.tinynibbles.com/. She's opened Submissions for the 2008 Best Women's Erotica. You have to be a female writer to qualify, more details http://www.tinynibbles.com/blogarchives … _call.html

Re: Erotic Writing

hi there.  i've finally gotten round to scoping out this site, and am hoping to give it lots more of the love it deserves now that i've gotten started.  it's fun to hear some familiar voices.  i think the production written and spoken-word erotica can be really challenging, and i really respect the ladies who run this site for stepping up to those challenges.  hot stuff.

i am hoping to contribute more to the site in the coming months.  i have a few pieces which i've started but not finished, so maybe someone here can hold me accountable for those by hassling me about them every now and again.  it's great to see this site materialise!

Re: Erotic Writing

Arielle and all,

Hello. I'm male, over 50, and love sex. I must say, the SonicErotica audio posts are wonderfully stimulating and I look forward to more. I enjoy and write erotica and just let my mind wander on my blog, alterdases.blogspot.com. Any comments or suggestions on writing would be appreciated. I'm working on a couple of posts that should appear soon.

Keep up the good work.
